This afternoon we took the a Math test. It is a test that helps us understand the strengths of each math student.

Studying the Early Dakota

Today we kicked off our chapter on the Early Dakota. We learned about the important value of generosity in the Dakota culture by reading the story The Badger and The Bear.

Kicking off the Daybook in literacy

Today we had our first lesson from our sixth grade Daybook. We are starting with the story, Before We Were Free.

Assembly and Bus meeting

Today we kicked off our first assmbly and had two special guests. Dr. Sicoli and Blaze our mascot helped kick off the year. We than kicked off Bengal pride with our first bus meeting of the year. We had the chance to walk in with our kindergarten friends.

Bus safety and Indoor recess

Today we continued learning about bus safety. We are focusing on key rules around riding the bus. We are also talking about our role as patrol leaders to help others be safe.

Due to the rain we had an indoor recess. Kids enjoyed some dancing and playing games. 

Using google chrome books

We are really enjoying our sixth grade set of chrome books. Last year Ms. McCormick worked hard on grant writing for a set of chrome books. We are excited as we are using Google classroom. Today the kids were working on writing their bio poems in Google classroom.

Library day in Monday

Today we had our first day of library. Each week we will go on Monday from 11:50-12:15.

Kids can bring their books back for exchange each week. If they finish early they may exchange as an individual earlier than Monday.

We are grateful for the leadership of our bus patrols.

Spinning Tops and Goal Setting

Today we did an activity with tops. Each group of three kids had a goal of spinning their tops longer and longer. They were working on improving their sprin performance and time. We tied this into a discussion of goals for the year. How do we set realistic goals? How do we work to achieve our goals?

Reading time after recess

When we come in from recess we have some time to quietly read. 

We love reading in 6th grade!

Kids can bring books from home or check out cool books from our library or the public library.

This morning we learned how to get into our Google classroom accounts.
